Recipe: Apple and Pear Butter with Crockpot
INGREDIENTS
- 2 1/2 lb (1.25 kg) peeled and diced apples (about 5 apples)
- 2 1/2 lb (1.25 kg) pears, peeled and diced
- (about 5 pears)
- 1/3 cup (80 ml) maple syrup
- 1/3 cup (80 ml) sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
PREPARATION
- Put all the ingredients in a slow cooker and mix. Cook at low heat for 8 to 10 hours (remove the cinnamon stick).
- Stir the mixture. If still liquid, continue cooking uncovered, stirring occasionally, for about 2 hours or until thickened. Using a hand blender, puree smooth. Put the apple and pear butter in jars, let cool and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. (It will keep for up to 2 weeks in the fridge or up to 3 months in the freezer.)
- Makes about 5 cups (1.25 L).
Bon appétit!
