Old-fashioned (family) meat loaf
INGREDIENTS
3 lbs beef or chopped veal
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 tbsp salt
1 onion, finely chopped
1/2 tsp mace or ground nutmeg
1 / 4 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp savory
1/2 lb salted bacon or chopped ham
1 cup bread crumbs or soda crackers
1/2 lemon juice
4 tbsp butter or melted bacon fat
1/2 cup hot water or hot tomato juice
PREPARATION
1. Put in a bowl minced meat, beaten eggs, salt, onion, spices, savory, salt pork or chopped ham, bread crumbs and lemon juice.
Mix with your hands until everything is smooth.
Squeeze into a bread pan.
2. Bake for 2 hours in a 350 ° F oven by basting several times with the cooking juice.
3.To serve the cold meatloaf, drain the cooking juices and add 1 unflavored gelatin wrapper, previously soaked for 5 minutes in 3 tbsp cold water (stir to dissolve gelatin).
Pour over meatloaf and refrigerate to make jelly.
