Recipe: The good old '' beans'' (baked beans with maple syrup)
Ingredients
4 cups of white beans
1/2 cup of salted bacon, cut into small cubes
1 cup of chopped onions
3/4 cup of maple syrup
1/4 cup of molasses
1 tbsp of tomato paste
1 tsp of black pepper from the mill
2 tsp of salt
2 tsp of powdered mustard
7 to 8 cups of water
Preparation
Rinse the beans well, drain them and place them in a baking casserole with salted bacon and onions. In a bowl, combine the maple syrup, molasses, tomato paste, salt, pepper and mustard powder, add a little water to dilute the mixture and pour over the beans. Cover with water.
Cover and bake at 250 F overnight or at least 8 hours. Add water if needed, it should not be missing (I check about 2 times). The texture should not be too thick even at the end of cooking because they will thicken further afterwards. Finally, everything is about taste! I also remove the lid the last hour to allow them to brown.
Bon appétit!
